To make Central and Southeastern Europe a stronger venue for trade fairs and exhibitions of international significance, trade-fair organizers in Belgrade, Bolzano, Bratislava, Bucharest, Budapest, Graz, Klagenfurt, Ljubljana, Munich, Novi Sad, Plovdiv, Prague, Sarajevo, Skopje, Vienna and Zagreb have decided to work together more closely in the areas of marketing and public relations, exchanging know-how and participating in training activities.

The Society for the Voluntary Control of Trade Fair and Exhibition Statistics has established uniform rules for collecting statistics about exhibitors, visitors and exhibition space. The latest information collected is published in the form of preliminary results on the Internet, and, following completion of the audit, compiled in the FKM Annual Report.

On October 24, 2002, this community of major German exhibitions was founded by fair organizers Messe Berlin GmbH, Messe Düsseldorf GmbH, Messe Frankfurt GmbH, Deutsche Messe AG Hannover, Köln Messe GmbH, Messe München GmbH and Nürnberg Messe GmbH.

The purpose of the GDG is to co-ordinate and represent the common interests of Germany as a trade-fair location towards the public. The association is based in Berlin.

UFI is the union of the world's leading trade-fair organizers and fairground owners, as well as the major national and international associations of the exhibition industry, and its partners.
